Just finished watching 2 episodes of Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel (and for anyone that knows me well, this is not a shameless plug for the show; it was actually really good – make sure you check out the bus shelters!). Anyway, watching the Discovery Channel reminded me of one of my favorite shows, Going Tribal. Going Tribal is about this English guy named Bruce who goes to live with various tribes throughout the world and takes part in all the rituals from living in huts to enjoying their “medicinal” drugs – anything for anthropology.

While searching for info on various tribes, I stumbled upon this one with old pictures of Filipino tribes. The pictures are crazy! They’re nothing like the tribal guys I saw last time I went to the Philippines – the guys I saw spent their days hanging out at all the tourist spots charging money to pose in pictures with you. This site has the old school tribes – I especially love the guy with all the tattoos (wow, I could’ve made a shameless plug for Miami Ink right now…). It’s cool how different they all look – the first tribe is the same one that’s posing in tourist pics today, the second is the Muslim tribe from the south, and the 3rd looks more Aboriginal. All it’s missing is a section on the old school Filipino headhunters…
